Hello Jim, I have been a subscriber of stratfor.com ever since Barron’s featured it in a story more than a year ago. I find the service useful in that it offers another point out of several for locating where we could be at any moment and will likely arrive at, by when. I do not agree with everything they conclude, nor believe the approach they indicate support for are a good idea in every case, but their service does not diminish in value to me even if I do not agree. Their e-mail service saves the trouble of keeping the discipline of regularly checking the site.

I also find this service newsinsider.org useful if one skips the editorial content and focus on the various reporting aggregation, for the same reason as noted above, and read with the same caution. It is just another point from which to triangulate from.

And this … russiajournal.com
… that … asahi.com
… and the other … hindustantimes.com
… but so much not this … guardian.co.tt

Now, doctor Jim, I move on to a more burning issue to us folks in Hong Kong.

We are suffering from something but am not yet sure what, but whatever it is, we now must have our temperature taken before we get on a plane Message 18833805 .

I am thinking, first the carry-on baggage checks (all check-in had always been scanned by in-line x-ray machines at each check-in counter for as long as I can remember), then the taking off of shoes, followed by water bottle inspections (in case they contain flammable fluids), and now temperature checks. What is next? Full health inspection plus a blood test, followed by colon something and Procto something else?

Travel is getting to be seriously unpleasant, unless one only checks into hotels in ones own city Message 18833789 .

I am getting concerned, because at the rate of development, I may not be able to travel to my home country in the Caribbean before long. I figure, Malaysia first, Panama second, and next stop, Trinidad Message 18833783 . It is so obvious.

Perhaps I worry too much, because we may not have any flight service. Air India has cancelled most of its services to Hong Kong, and now, this from our own flag (private) carrier Message 18833778 .

The cost is adding up, the tipping point must be nearer in distance and therefore closer in travel time, and we may get to TeoTwawKi (The End of the World as we Know it) before everybody else Message 18833774 .

Hong Kong may hold out under the siege longer than Baghdad managed to, but so what if we do?

My back-stop plan before having to de-camp Hong Kong by chartered boat that surreptitiously lands my wife and I in the Philippines first, and then catch a series of onward flights to Port-of-Spain, is to sustain for as long as I can in the very strange Chung Hom Kok Bay Beach Bum Economy, as my friends elsewhere are sustaining themselves on the Service Economy, the Housing Economy, or other variations of the Zero Interest Rate Economy.

I figure I can sell one series of puts on some gold mining firm or build some other put/call straddle and selling same, one expiration per month, each and every month, until (a) Hong Kong collapses into total anarchy, or (b) world dissolves in TeoTwawKi.

What does the beginnings of TeoTwawKi look like?

according to an article posted yesterday, Stratfor considers the coming days and weeks to be the period of the most extreme danger of a large-scale al Qaeda attack on US soil since 9/11.
