Jacob - Alberta tar sands have a big problem. North America is facing a massive shortage of natural gas which is used to heat up the tar to extract it.

2/3 of economically recoverable oil reserves are in the Mideast and there is no way around that fact in site.

I expect the idea of maintaining a limited low visibility security force there will be the path taken.

Iraq does not have money for a military and taking care of the basic needs of the country. They cannot fund the capital investments they need from the present oil exports. They wont attract much absolutely essential investment until the nation is stabilized and investment risk can be reduced and quantified.

I really don't think it is about having the oil. I think it is about controlling the oil.

A self-defeating proposition. Hard to attract investment money to a war zone, which is what it'll be if we try to keep our army there that long.

Oh?? The US military remained in both Germany and Japan for decades, ensuring their security and heightening their stability...

The costs of production of Canada's Alberta Tar Sands is down in the 7-11$/b range.

Then why aren't they engaging in all out production ALREADY??!!

Hawk

>>spend them on friendlier ground<<

Canada is friendly to the US? Sure doesn't seem like it.
