>>Well, maybe minor changes. I haven't decided what, if anything, I'll do about it, but I do have a bit of a problem with the fact that 3/4 or more of the content of what is supposed to be a stock market discussion site has nothing to do with anything resembling the market.

That camel got into the tent pretty easily. Got its nose in with "The political climate has everything to do with the market", but now the camel's in the tent and so large that there's little room for anything else.<<

bob,

i believe it's quite probable that the content shift had (has) much more to do with the bear market than any administrative decision.

at the height of the bull, stock specific threads were always the most active, now it is rare to see active discussion on individual stocks.

eventually general market trend threads became more dominant, and it's only very recently (with this latest market turn) that i've even noticed more than one or two stock specific threads on the hot list

Bob, when the market really starts to heat up again, you will see more Market activity and less of the other stuff.

I see it happening a little right now.

It just takes time.

Joe

Bob, the "stock talk" is a non-issue. Mulholland has some good points here ( #reply-18952634 ) and I would add that the site's "firstest" mission was specific to tech stocks (www.techstocks.com!), rapidly corrupted when people started posting about (egad!) mining stocks, way back in the day. Stock talk will return when the market does, and folks have nursed over their portfolio wounds. The best solution here is adhering to the FBN motto of doing nothing at all to stand in the way of inevitable success.

"I do have a bit of a problem with the fact that 3/4 or more of the content of what is supposed to be a stock market discussion site has nothing to do with anything resembling the market."

Hi Bob,
First and foremost, congratulations! I can't think of a more suitable owner(s) of this site.

WRT your statement about non-market talk here:

With the end of the bull market and the reduction of daytrading, it was inevitable that there would be far less stock talk here. At this point, most of the people I know here on SI either rarely trade or went to bonds a while ago. While we still keep up with the market, it's no longer the focus of our day-to-day conversation.

What is? The news-- political, health-oriented, personal, you name it. Many of us who remain have now been here five years or more. We stay because of the relationships we've formed here, relationships that transcend the market. I'd hate to see non-market talk sherpherded off this site.
Or even discouraged.

The fact that serious and focused market discussion has flourished at IHUB at the same time that it has died off on SI is due to active, intelligent and caring management at IHUB and lack of same at SI. INSP allowed an appalling amount of personal attacks to stand as if there was nothing wrong with it. Outstanding leaders were driven off the site and the vital and stimulating discussions they engendered died when they left.

I expect it will take time for people who have left to learn that "real" SI people are running the site again and find their way back to their old threads, if they ever do.

The neglect at SI has been a source of sadness to many old-timers, but I know we are all elated to have you in charge. The ad hoc down to earth approach you have always taken will lead to a return to good health of SI.

Rick

Bob,

Congratulations and best of luck! It's good and fitting that you are back in the saddle here at SI.

re: fact that 3/4 or more of the content of what is supposed to be a stock market discussion site has nothing to do with anything resembling the market.

Absolutely agree. Besides controlling my own posting behavior, let me know what I can do to help in this respect.

greg.

Congrats Bob. Your teams made a great acquisition. Now you have the opportunity to really do something with it. I can help by providing some NEW Product ideas. Please PM me with a telephone number, I've got some special ways to jump start a whole new angle on systems such as SI.

Best,
DVDW

Will those of us that paid a life time membership be allowed a refund after you decide what we are and are not allowed to discuss?

Do you recognize an obligation to offer refunds to people like myself if you solve the:

"Well, maybe minor changes. I haven't decided what, if anything, I'll do about it, but I do have a bit of a problem with the fact that 3/4 or more of the content of what is supposed to be a stock market discussion site has nothing to do with anything resembling the market."

I suggest you take a look at Fools, Yahoo, Ragingbull, CNBC. Normal people do not post 100% crap 24/7 regarding the stock market. These boards are nothing but garbage. Ruin by idiots selling news letters and striving to save their stock and employer with one more pump. I paid good money for something different. You are proposing major changes, to the point that the product I bought will not exist at all.

Bob,

I personally have no problem with having forums for political discussion.

However, when a group of squatters take over a site and the discussion has nothing to do with the "title" of the "Subject" it is unfair. Someone on the "Applied Materials [AMAT]" thread actually said "Lurkers have no rights" when a complaint was made about the completely off topic discussion.

Comments made about the ease of creating a new thread and moving to it were ignored. SI ignored complaints...
