On the other side of the Atlantic, at least, there are some people who are going to hold the leadership accountable for their lies. Here, the Democrats look at the polls, and don't have the courage to confront Bush. Senator Byrd, who is untouchable in his present position, and has no further ambitions, is the only one who is saying what Robin Cook is saying. And all the Republicans who decided Clinton's lies merited impeachment, are loyally supporting the President. If it was a Democrat who had done what Bush has done, and if the Republicans controlled Congress, there would be lots of calls for impeachment.

<<Tony Benn, the former Labour minister, told LBC Radio: "I believe the Prime Minister lied to us and lied to us and lied to us. The whole war was built upon falsehood and I think the long-term damage will be to democracy in Britain. If you can't believe what you are told by ministers, the whole democratic process is put at risk. You can't be allowed to get away with telling lies for political purposes.">>

Unless you're a member of the neo-colonialists....then it becomes permissable. Just ask some of the regulars that post here. I guess you're unpatriotic these days should you even question that you were lied to.
Where are the Democrats on this.....talk about spineless jellyfish!

"You're going to be told lots of things.
You get told things every day that don't happen.

It doesn't seem to bother people, they don't—
It's printed in the press.
The world thinks all these things happen.
They never happened.

Everyone's so eager to get the story
Before in fact the story's there
That the world is constantly being fed
Things that haven't happened.

All I can tell you is,
It hasn't happened.
It's going to happen."

"I think what you’ll find,
I think what you’ll find is,
Whatever it is we do substantively,
There will be near-perfect clarity
As to what it is.

And it will be known,
And it will be known to the Congress,
And it will be known to you,
Probably before we decide it,
But it will be known.

It was never my understanding that the rationale for going to war was the imminence of attack, but the overall threat of the programs, the need to come to a conclusion, and the impossibility of sustaining American pressure, which seemed the key to even token compliance, indefinitely. This is a tempest in a teapot.

In 2+ months from the start until today...are you SURE there is nothing to be found....anyplace....in the area the size of California? What makes you so sure? Are you going to apologize when you are proven wrong?

In the meantime, have you thought that there are many more people living today in Iraq that might not be if Saddam and his awful sons were still in charge?

I think children think in terms of minutes, and that things happen instantly just as one would wish them to be. Let us be adults, and see where we are in a year or two or so.

Same with Afghanistan. The Taliban aren't training terrorists in the country right now. Women are already more free to choose what they wish to wear and when. Girls are able to go to school now.

It is a tribal society, and has been for thousands of years. WARLORDS, for pete's sake. Most Americans can't even cope with the concept. And hopefully, will NEVER have to cope with it here.

Do people really think that ANYONE from the outside can change habits in a year or two.... The people who think in terms of a few weeks or months have no sense of past history of any nation and any war in the world....
