I find iHub about as slow as SI. It probably depends on the particular path between you and their server. I do see that they have multiple backbones. I get different paths on my two internet connections. One winds-up on swbell, the other winds-up on ATT. The swbell one sucks. The ATT one is much better. swbell just has a horrendous number of hops between me and SI. The round trip is faster on the first one, but the number of hops is higher - more places for something to go wrong. For comparison...
