Now it turns out he didn't. Why? It was really nutty to do this.

Unless he unloads an end action here, that breaks the cycle, this whole episode will go down as stupid on his part, IMO.

Unless something different happens, I agree - but I'm still waiting and seeing. Bush had to know that pushing a peace process now would make a war with Hamas much more likely, not less.

<< I am really taken aback by Bush's actions. Everything that has happened since he went over there was entirely predictable. I think even everyone on this board knew it, and we all figured, "he must have something new up his sle." Now it turns out he didn't. Why? It was really nutty to do this.

Its tough to win over the critics- first they condemn the Administration for eliminating terrorists and freeing Iraq.
Now they can condemn Bush for not stepping in to avert the latest conflict.
To fight the war on terror it is first necessary to identify who are the terrorists.
The Hamas just jumped into the ring, and claimed they were the best or worst, and next in line.. .
Its no longer Israel versus Palestine or Arafat or Abass, they have all agreed to the roadmap..
There is not enough public support for the US to step in and help. The Hamas are not a threat to the US like Al Qaeda was.
GWB is involved and has shown his presence for several reasons
1. An appeal for peace, which goes unheeded.
2. To show he has the power, but does not use it. (as critics would love to see happen)
3. When Israel is finished , the demise of the Hamas will represent a lesson and warning to other terrorist groups that there is no safe place left and that even leaders like Arafat who supported them in the past can no longer afford to do that. Since they did not do their homework they will have to learn from real life

Peace initiative...Israel and Palestine and US as initiator

Agreement between leaders of countries

Terrorist groups say no peace...."Israel to the sea" they say.

Palestine terrorist groups say they are sending in a suicide bomber

US can't go after terrorist groups BUT know Israel can

And does....

If Arafat were a true leader, he would shut down the terrorist groups.

He isn't, and doesn't.

Is it better for the terrorist groups to be destroyed now....or later when they have more dangerous weapons?
