slacker, the owners of the company should get it if qcom doesn't need it, imho.

you bring up a good point. i guess what i should have said is doing well "compared to expectations."

they are just trying to make their earnings look better by selling puts. better than their earnings actually are.

this game - and it is a game - can work well. but it is also very risky.

Very good question. Some choices:

1) QCOM stock buyback via put sells;
2) play the stock/bond market;
3) dividend increase;
4) QSI;
5) QCOM stock buyback via direct buy;
6) technology and/or product acquisition;
7) other?
8) do nothing, be like CSCO or MSFT with hoardes of cash

Each one has its pros and cons...
