It definitely was in the state of Indiana, where the economy is more concentrated in manufacturing. But I agree that the recession was not yet widespread. The bubble had definitely popped at that point.

Not necessarily prosperity, but Definitely NOT recession

Yeah, but we were irrevocably on our way by then. Once the bubble imploded, the snowball was launched a-rolling downhill..look, the Bush Administration is full of quacks and morons, but the Clinton Administration was, too (only they were marginally more charming and devious. Compare Bob Rubin to O'Neill for example). Plenty of blame and shame to go around for all. These hacks are only interested in covering their arses and keeping their jobs...if any good is ever spawned from their efforts, it is purely accidental.<NFG>

Clearly The Problems In The Economy Preceded Bush

The major problem is that neither as a candidate, nor even today, does Busch fully recognize, acknowledge, nor attempt to bring any real leadership to bear on the issue.

This country is in deep economic doo doo. Far worse than we have ever experienced before. And not one "leader" has ever truly reconciled them or the country to that fact.

With the terrorist attack on the WTC Bush recognized that he had a major crisis, and attempted to respond. The Economic condition is a far greater threat to the security of the US than terrorists. But the response has been little more than finger pointing.
