There are those who began with the premise that Bush was an idiot and a shill; that Cheney and Rumsfeld and some others were evil old men representing the darker forces of corporate America; and that this Administration was a giant step towards fascism, from the start. They began to weave their fantasies out of this and that thread almost immediately, and their analysis of the Iraq situation has merely reflected well- established prejudices. One can tell the difference between an honest critic and a Bush basher by the way in which the latter makes lurid assertions far in excess of current evidence, reflecting their deep belief in the depravity of the Administration........

By the way, the idea that the Administration wanted oil is dopey. If they wanted oil, we have enough against the Saudi regime, which is militarily useless, that we could have rationalized attacking it. Heck, we had troops on their soil! And there are fewer Saudis than Iraqis, there would have been a more controllable populace. Why didn't we take over Saudi Arabia? Because it was not about oil, it was about the things they said it was about.......
