Ashcroft seems to be every secular person's bogeyman,

I have defended Ashcroft again and again on this thread. He has not done anything. But now he is starting a censorship campaign against Porn. He really wants to censor what you can read and watch. You may have noticed my comments on this thread about my dislike of the coarseness of our media, and the fact that it is bad and getting worse. But censorship, IMO, is not the answer.

The problem with the hard core religious comes when you have them in a majority situation where they think they can control. I lived in the south growing up, and saw the local Preachers pushing their moral code on the community.

What I worry about is keeping them out of the bedrooms. They fought contraceptive use tooth and fang years ago. They want to stop a women's right to choose. They want to censor what we read and see. When someone believes he knows right from wrong on an absolute basis, and gets in power, he will impose it on you if he can. Prayer in school is a good example.
