Does intel take a direct hit from opteron though? I thought opteron competed with intel's next gen chip, the Titanic or something which never got off the ground? So no revenue from that on intels books now. Or is there.

I'm not really clear on what chips compete with what though. Sure does seem like these pentiums are getting long in the tooth, I agree.

Jay,

if the opteron is so great, why don't you do what I did and short INTC?

EVERY TIME Intel has competed with AMD it has won the battle; why will this time be any different? Barron's never answered or even addressed this question in their article. Getting "buzz" from a new product is quite a bit different than successfully competing on a consistent basis against an industry Behemoth.

If you are short INTC here, you had better hope that numbers on the economy turn around instead of maintaining their improvement, as INTC will be a large benefactor of any improvements in the economy. IMO, it's a bit late to be short this sector.
