They would never impose their social values on others.
That I find very hard to believe. Maybe just not what we're talking about.
So they had no views at all about what others did or how they lived? None at all? As long as they stayed within the law, it was anything goes?

Well- probably not, you are correct. But for example when living in sin was taboo, my parents wouldn't have allowed ME to do it as a teenager for example. But you can be sure they wouldn't have been for any legislature preventing it. They also were opposed to anything politicians tried to do that smacked of using god as some kind of justification for whatever. They were very distrustful of religious wackos. They did not care about "medical marijuana". I remember my dad thought Alice Cooper and Kiss and other rock bands were in it for the money, my dad liked the "welcome to my nightmare" album (but not as much as he liked the Bee Gees). Again it wasn't like they were going to let me morph into these people or go see an Alice Cooper show or anything. I'm just saying that people that really believe in work and a work ethic are pretty happy to let capitalism exist as the law, they assume everything everybody does also exists as a reaction to capitalistic forces and if you believe that, things are a lot less scary. Even though its a pretty simplistic way to look at the world.

As far as abortion and the central valley- who cares about the central valley. Is the central valley the majority in CA- NO. Women want abortion in this state and a true republican would back off these social minefields and focus on business and trade. If that is what Arnie does, (and we don't know what he will do admittedly) then as far as I'm concerned he is a republican in the reagan tradition which is about free markets and low taxes and NOT fighting an abortion and church jihad.
