All I can say is there's a 14 year old Saudi boy down the road, 10 months Saudi, 2 months in America. Last year he wanted a bike so I lent him mine.

He was here every day, almost like a pest. I fed him and gave him soft drinks. Entertained the little terrorist for two months.

This year he showed up, wanted the bike and also stole my field glasses. "Saddam is great and Bush is killing Iraqis for no reason". Off he went. I finally got my field glasses and bike back from his mother two months later. They have that hate just built into them. Yep, he wanted to be American for the freedom but hated America.

From Riverbend's writing.
3 language errors and numerous punctuation errors.

1) "Buildings cannot just be made functionary." functional

2) "It is a suspended bridge that was designed and built by a British company." Suspension bridge.

3) "I always say this war is about oil. It is."

This statement is not colloquial English. It is an example of the way a foreigner might speak English.

I've always said that this war is about oil." is what one would expect of a person well educated and practiced in English.

Comparing some of the paragraphs I get the feeling that at least two different people wrote the article. Paragraph 7(As May was drawing to a close....) and 10(Something you should know ....) come to mind.

I don't blame anyone living in Iraq these days for being ambiguous about the facts of their existence. Salam Pax was extremely cautious during the regime and afterwards for a while.

He "outed" himself at about the same time as the Guardian started publishing his weekly column - actually if I recall correctly a NY Times author wrote an article about the Guardian blogger being his translator when he was in Iraq - and we still don't know his real name, although it's known to the US administration, according to things he's posted.

I would assume that he's passed on Riverbend's bona fides.

Unless the New York Times and the Guardian are being hoaxed, Salam Pax is who he says he is, and from that I assume that Riverbend is who she says she is.
