"... but I still think that there is a superior model available
for Moderated threads...one that..."
-
Michelino,
-
Not knowing if you are an iHub member, but this idea about
3 months ago was mentioned there, and a loud outcry of NO
was obtained. No need to wonder why many found it a bad idea
because the opinions did not address an element so far missing
from the back & forth between those like Bux that feel stepped on,
and others not wanting the Bux(s) of the world to continue what
they see as being stepped on.
-
I'am not surprised Sheriff Matt has not acknowledge the most
important discussion missing from all the exchanges since his
youth of powerful mind requires him to present himself similiar
to the way he did on his iHub's pic, that being just by chance
he is a very tall and big and strong male, that he sadly choose
to let attributes most important to cave men many thousands
of years ago be presented to iHub's members as support for
his brain power, that this far into iHub's business model,
is showing a lack of ability to handle iHub's growth beyond
that recent past where it was a small collection of people.
This is why his face and stand radiates "power & strength"
of a physical nature, to make up for a lack of thinking insight
that is a function of age in a small degree, but mostly a function
of attitude to accept one's mental ability to become useful
only when understanding replaces the current acceptance
of being confused and not knowing why.
-
Before your suggestion, which is a variation of one i suggested
on iHub using a Shadow board where no person can be banned,
and no posts except for serious TOU violations can be deleted,
is a model i see for iHub where this setup is used only in the
most rare of times where a board goes into a continual state
of chaos with personal attacks from the many to a few.
-
This most likely is the Bux Story, and sadly Sheriff Matt realized
that his stated "truth" to iHub that he will figure it out, did not
come to pass, and he is now taking a sleezy way out and one
by one removing the Bux(s) rather than say that he is clueless
on how to handle a situation presents many months ago.
-
My Shadow or Trojan Horse approach in 100 words or less:
-
Note: Only for iHub where members can not be banned on boards.
-
This model takes that rare exception and allows a board to ban
those few in number posters that placed it into a state that the
boards purpose or focus seems never to be done. Most likely
the characteristics is a company stock losing from 1/2 to 99%
of it value and a zillion holders are "forced" to become "longs"
and for each hundred of these new longs a Bux will arrive and
tell everyone "its hopeless" under the cover of helping them
accept their loses and move on, and to prevent any potential
new investors from buying in and raising the share price.
-
Ya'up, Same battle plan professional Shorters hire others to do.
-
Let we stop myself babbling since i know Sheriff Matt has already
obtained a mind set to deliver his thoughts to himself that i'am
full of a big dump of elephant dung :o) and BobZ can not get
his propellor beanie hat off since the reversed rotation is too
strong in the downways pushing on his head to lift off and put
on another hat, like his Business Man cap :o)
-
Before Sheriff Matt and BobZ can change, let alone replace,
the current thread and board models, plus major TOU changes,
they simply need to know the reasons why the current ones have
presented problem areas, as identified by members, not themselves.
-
Very simple, find out why what you have causes cries for change,
and then you will know what to change. Change without knowing
why a past part caused "damage" is not a learning process.
I'am sure BobZ can give a racing car example as a story.

So, let me see if I'm understanding this correctly.

I think it's pretty well-known the disdain I have for "Filtering" or "Ignore", and only implemented them on iHub because of the amount of demand. Easier to implement them than to spend the rest of my life explaining why they're such self-destructive tools when mis-used, which is going to be the case better than 90% of the time. The old "He's not giving me warm fuzzies about my investment, so I don't want to read him" thing.

That said, you'll probably understand why I use the word "Kool-Aid" below...

If I understand correctly, what you're suggesting is a kind of "Drink the Kool-Aid" checkbox or button present on each thread/board, and if the user selects that option, all posts by authors the thread moderator has added to an Ignore list specific to that thread will be ignored by the readers. Unselecting that option makes all posts visible again save for what the user's own filters/ignores hide.

About right?

And along with making that option available, doing away with the "Moderated Thread" model whereby the moderator can exclude people from posting.

I'm nowhere near ready to make any changes to SI's interface, but when I am ready, I'd like to be ready for an optimimum moderation model that not only pleases most users but addresses my concerns about the site being used manipulatively.
