Both Perot and Nader have become pariahs to the major parties because of their spoiler roles. But to Nader, McClintock risks losing his integrity if he drops out now after repeatedly vowing to stay in the race. ``He could become a word in the dictionary: `McClintocked,' '' Nader said. ``To be McClintocked is to say repeatedly you're going to be in the race, nothing's going to dissuade you, you're moving forward on basic principles . . . and then you drop out.'' There have been few spoilers in political history because a candidate must be well-known enough to draw significant support, and then must run in a race close enough that those votes make a difference. One of the country's most famous spoilers was former President Theodore Roosevelt, who abandoned the Republican Party in 1912 and ran as a Progressive. His 27 percent of the vote topped the sitting GOP incumbent, the more conservative William H. Taft, and allowed Democrat Woodrow Wilson to win.

Exactly right. Swing-voters are everything. And with Bush stuck on the far right with a lousy economy and mess in Iraq, a centrist-liberal war hero like Kerry should beat him handily. But there's a long way to go and many battles to be fought. The good thing from Democrats POV is that it seems the GOP is relying on cover-ups, exagerations, lies and old dirty tricks to try and sway voters. Most people will see through all that garbage this time around. No more phony photo ops on air-craft carriers, nor wars. People want peace and prosperity now. And it will be the "economy stupid" once again which is the #1 issue. Who managd the economy best in the last 10 years? Only one obvious choice.
