actually with the 3 million net lost jobs since 2000 for the US economy, I believe this jobs climate is the worst since Hoover.

As far as the unemployment rate, isn't that the applications for UI they are counting? Everyone I know exhausted that years ago. Total jobs number is much more meaningful, from the BLS site- just look at the non farm payrolls.

I think its the giant sucking sound and its going to take a while to work through this. But what effect it has on the stock market? I'm not sure. Its possible stocks could go up with no jobs, if we can get our fiscal house in order in the US (a big if).

right on, the hardest time I ever had finding a job, interest rates were in the teens. I was living by a rail line at the time, you could almost watch the economy sink by the reduced number of cars on the trains.
