I don't agree with AmyJ on everything but she and I agree that the grandfather tax structure in Calfornia, which subsidizes the elderly at the expense of the young and new homeowners, overtaxes the young. I would say 90% of the "small businesses" in the North are subcontractors to the high tech industry, everything from illegals doing gardening and maintenance to CD Rom production to direct marketing. Why the heck should the state of California subsidize these people's healthcare? The whole reason these firms subcontract is so they can create the mirage of a plethora of benefits for their management while these average joes get the shaft, but helping the working man is not my motivation, I think Intel should pay for his own expenses. If intel brings over an L1 visa worker, they pay them in Poland money in an offshore account ($4 an hour max) and provide them housing here. No healthcare, and if these people get sick it is on the taxpayers dime. No way I am sick of this. These workers don't work for intel they work for a "small business", Poland offshore workers inc or some other bogus arrangement.
