precisely why I want this problem of large companies dumping their healthcare burden onto the taxpayers solved at a national level.

the fact is that *somebody* ultimately has to pay.

you're comfortable with corporations shunting off health care expense to the government...(read taxpayers)

but of course we've seen with gray davis what happens when that occurs....

his solution...

shunt the cost back to corporations (read taxpayers through higher prices...hello!!! got pricing power??? nope....)

well here's a radical idea...

let the *consumer* of health care be the one to pay for it.

and *if* it is (as we tend to pay lipservice to) that we want universal health care...

then let each individual *fully deduct* the cost of their health care expense on the tax return.

that way the consumer has totally portability and complete control

Do we get our money's worth with the 800mm in taxes that oracle pays, on a national level, maybe - on a state level- NO WAY.

this exposes the silliness of your argument...

AS IF

the goal was for co's like oracle to paying 800 M in taxes has some kind of "value added" component.

no...

the states, the feds tax the oracles, intels, and you name it corporations BECAUSE THEY CAN...

and then....

THEY decide how the money is wasted.

most preferably boondagles or pork barrel spending to get the status quo re-elected.

the rest of your post is so bizarre it doesn't even warrant a response.

but trust me....i'm sure any of the other 49 other states will be more than happy to take the orcl's off of CA's hands (that is if india doesn't get them first)

and i will sit here at a distance and i will marvel at how you are willing for politics sake to watch your state financially implode.

amazing

If Davis's medical law drives oracle out of California- good riddance, imo they should move to India anyway.
Why not just tax all profits at 110% and drive every business that can move out of state if this is to be the philosophy? We can pay for lots of sweet sounding programs with THAT money- -for a short while.

If a business is movable, why WOULDN'T it leave CA, given the direction you and your friends are taking it? Our neighboring states have got to look irresistible at this point.

You think businesses have to be in this state to take advantage of CA universities? Are you going to get a law passed prohibiting graduates of CA universities from leaving the state? I think the USSC is going to have a problem with that. Unless CA is prepared to secede and then hold off the US Army, this won't work.

What are those UC grads going to do when they get their sheepskins and the jobs are in AZ, UT, OR, .... ? That's a rhetorical question; you know what they will do.

A lot of those foreigners you are whining about? They have advanced technical degrees from foreign universities. They come here on a green card, work awhile, get permanent residency, maybe citizenship, and start their own companies. There are hundreds of companies in the valley that were started by immigrants. And CA taxpayers DIDN'T have to pay for their education, which not uncommonly are better than supposedly equivalent US educations.

Have you got your Socialist Worker's Party membership card yet? You really are the sorriest excuse for a conservative I've run across. There is no such thing as a tax or a gov't program you don't love.

What gives here, lizzie? How can you POSSIBLY claim to be a Republican with views like these? You'd fit right in with Robert Reich, Ted Kennedy, .....
