Dale,

Nice to chat with someone of your caliber. You've got a great handle on what is going on in the world. :)

Howard Dean went some distance to overcome the "inconsistency" rap on the News Hour last night. Here's his words, directly quoted:

"Of course I've changed my positions. You'd have to be an idiot not to change your positions based on the facts. I was a supporter of NAFTA and I was a supporter of the WTO. But the evidence is that they haven't helped working people in America. They haven't created new jobs."

There is some speculation, based on meetings between Dean and Clark, that there may be a vice-presidential offer being made to Clark. This would neatly solve your difficulty with Dean's apparent lack of foreign policy expertise.

Of course we both know that Dean is far more sophisticated about foreign affairs at this stage in his campaign than George Bush was in his campaign in the last election cycle.

Dean doesn't need to be a complete wonk on foreign affairs today. The Democratic Party has a deep bench of talent that Dean can call on. Albright, Holbrooke, Richardson, Rubin, Clinton and others would all be available to create a Dean foreign policy.
