Dick Morris has speculated that Bush's understanding of the new Hispanic population in America, and his support of them, may be as critical a turning point as Nixon's reapproachment with China.

Given that the new Cold War in the 21st century is between not us and the Soviets, but between us and the anti-American domestic enemy we have allowed to fester like a disease at home, he may be right.

I think 3 stands on it's own. It is a separate point. And you may not like the name warfare but it is a decision that benefits one class at the expense of another. What would you call it?

<<But this idea of personally attacking someone, calling him a "monkey" or a "moral coward", etc. merely because he has a set of principles with which we disagree is childish>>

I agree. It goes both ways, and I thought the Bush Nazi ad was really a dumb idea. I don't think this administration was straight up in going to war with Iraq, but that point has been argued ad nauseum.

<<But all of this "Islam is peace", "Reverend Dean Sweet Baby Jesus" crap makes me ill.
>>

I guess I missed out on this. I don't know what you're talking about.

You can't legislate morality, but the government does have a responsibility to protect the common interest against the greed of the few who would otherwise harm it. The law is imperfect, but it is potentially useful that our society can maintain some semblence of justice. Corporations are working full time to create laws that benefit them at the expense of the common welfare, it is only fair that the common welfare has some representation.
