OT .. Amy, re "Geez, what about the Avian Flu?"

Two snips from a World Health Organization PR (my emphasis) ... "Although it has not happened yet, the so-called “bird flu” presents a risk of evolving into an efficient and dangerous human pathogen, the three agencies warned." ... AND ... "The threat from avian influenza is well understood. Unlike SARS, diagnostic tests already exist, as do effective, although costly, antivirals for humans. While it is challenging, research is already well underway on the development of a human vaccine against this strain."

I suggest we just let the people *that can do something* about it .. do something about it.

Amy, RE: India's top 'high schools' teach differential calculus in 8th grade, while integral calculus is taught in 9th grade.

Indonesia's top high schools teach calculus around the Junior & Senior years.

Meanwhile, our top high schools teach calculus in the Senior year of high school.

I would disagree strongly with this. I was in high school two and a half decades ago, and I was learning calculus starting in my sophomore year, not my senior year. Kids in high school now can go even quicker if they desire.

And just as important to me, if you venture out beyond the "top schools", we are way, way ahead of both India and China. My kids can get an education at the rural public school here in NC that is every bit as good as the best private school in the state, if they have the ability to achieve that high.

Also, the USA school system fosters extremely creative thinking.

This is the most ridiculous statement I have ever read. Did you GO to school here????

LMAO!!

RO

Ps I can't help but post to certain comments... just as surely as I could not allow 'Hitler was a nice guy' to go by unremarked. Both statements are ludicrous.

Good gawd her incessant posts never end...does that pie hole ever shut?? lol
