Kerry's best asset politically is the ease with which he casts off old positions and loyalties. He joined VVAW, got a lot of press attention, then abandoned the group after a few months, preserving his political viability.

Excellent article, thanks for posting. Bush's flip flops are much more recent than Kerry's. Crank up the "Against Nation-Building" and the "humble foreign policy" mouthings from the debates.... No politician is perfect but I'd take Kerry's long career in public service (including his Navy service in Vietnam, AND his antiwar efforts afterwards) to George W. Bush's non-accomplishments any time.
John Kerry has been much more of a public servant than Bush.

I hope it's not going to be a campaign based on who was more right about VietNam or who was a hero or who avoided service. As far as character flaws, I'd say Kerry and Bush are pretty much equal. Both are typical political opportunists, putting fingers in the wind and taking what is perceived as a popular opinion. Both have lives choreographed to get them to the highest office in the land. Actually, Kerry may be better at the dance and he is a better speaker so he is able fluff off the attacks with a bit more ease.

Some would say they are equally "qualified" in the business of grooming their lives to look good to the American voter. Personally, I'd like to see a new type of politician, but it's rare in a democracy that someone speaks the truth or his true feelings and gets elected.
