In SA, for example, the national broadcaster, as well as most of the leading newspapers, has always been totally dominated by government appointees/supporters/surrogates/clones who espouse only the party line. In fact, one would imagine that the national broadcaster anywhere would broadcast only in the national interest (that means the interest of the state), not against it. Clearly, under the latest political dispensation, the BBC has become an anomaly. For years we have known, even in supposedly democratic countries, that the interest of the state is not necessarily the interest of the "people". In fact, these days, the state appears to have become an invisible clique which runs the government and which, seemingly, takes orders from the one which is in charge of the US. Perhaps it was always so but it wasn't so obvious in the past because middle-class people, like ourselves, were always under attack by the Marxists and were included with the "ruling-class" as the bourgeoisie --- the great evil of the "workers". Now it is clear, however, that in the new "order" the middle-class are as much under attack as the working-class and, indeed, are just as insecure, if not more so.
