Imminent......

The word was, in fact, used by three administration spokesmen to describe the Iraqi threat, while Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld variously described it as "immediate," "urgent," "serious and growing," "terrible," "real and dangerous," "significant," "grave," "serious and mounting," "the unique and urgent threat," "no question of the threat," "most dangerous threat of our time," "a threat of unique urgency," "much graver than anybody could possibly have imagined," and so forth and so on.

Fine. Now that there are no WMDs there, why not bring our boys and girls home? Three more youngsters were killed yesterday...

Shakespeare has a line where the character says you saved me from imminent death three times today. If imminent meant that it WILL happen then that fellow would have been thrice dead. But he lived. He was able to avert an imminently dangerous situation.

It does not mean that it WILL happen. That is the dishonest lie that GW has told the public, and that you believe. Where is it written that imminent is too late? Only in the mind of GW and his followers that live in fear that a threat will rise that can not be stopped.

Good people and good intelligence will certainly be needed to protect freedom, because the likes of GW will strip it away one layer at a time in the name of safety until there is niether safety nor freedom. Don't you see even the possibility of this? I realize that what is happening today is a far cry from that fateful outcome, but it comes in tiny increments until...

Tommorrow I will scour the patriot act and quote the passages that state an enemy combatant, even if they are an american citizen (at least one is being held now) can be jalied without legal representation or formal charges with proof being presented.

You say it is being done and that we are stopping the terrorists, but for how long? A day, a week, a month? Why not take steps that will truly bring peace. And I don't mean sitting round waiting for everyone to get reasonable. Deal with people fairly. Hold them accountable. Don't let oil or politics get in the way.

I do hope for a good outcome in Iraq even if I disagree with the means used to attain it.

Good night.
