Do people really think that this will help to change a gay or lesbian person's sexual orientation? nope. nor do i think that is the real issue and it seems to me that it is the homosexual community that is demanding governmental involvement by insisting that government sanction gay marriage

If we view marriage as just a legal partnership we're headed for trouble. When I turn 60 I'll divorce my wife, marry a parrot (they only live about 100 years) to make sure my family can suck social security dry for another 85 years after my death. Like you Jorj, I don't care who people do in their bedrooms - it's none of my business. OTOH, I do fear the ramifications (both social and financial) if we allow gay marriage.
