Bollocks. Anzar said "ETA" for one day, then published info pointed to Al Qaeda, as it came out. If he had been trying a coverup, you don't think he could have managed one for three stinking days?

The Socialists said 'We're only a target because we're an ally of the US.' They said that. And then they won an election that they had been expected to lose. Because of the terrorist attack.

Those are the facts.

Jochen, you seem to have forgotten that the terrorist posted on their websites that their stated goal was to continue to strike at Spain through terrorism until Spain pulled their forces out of Iraq. Well, Spain did just that. So what do you call this, if not appeasement?

Aznar was voted out because he lied to his people, trying to exploit the ETA conflict.

Perhaps. But don't you agree that al Qaeda interprets it as appeasement and thus a victory? And that that will embolden them and make them more dangerous? If not, what do you think al Qaeda makes of it?

"But "war on terror" doesn't include the occupation of Iraq. "

but it may, if successful, include its (iraqs) liberation.

I dont know how it will play out in spain but al qaeda thinks they won a battle here. As we have agreed in our side discussion, it is time for both sides to put iraq differences into perspective and fight the terror wars together. And i believe bush and chirac are the guys to lead here.
With the american isolationist, american firster, anti free trade, socialist kerry you may get the reverse of spain--the belief in the US that the weakened al quaeda might avoid the US entirelyif we become less active in the terror war. All we have to do is abandon israel, western europe, dependence on foreign oil, foreign entanglements etc etc.. After all the prime targets of al quaeda are the middle east, south asia, and other areas of the world with large "active" muslim populations such as europe. An american isolationist might say the hell with spain and let the euros deal with terror and bin laden may cut such a deal, even if only short term and tactical, to solidify areas where he has a better chance to win.
