"Nevertheless, anyone with a name remotely even Muslim sounding using a fake ID, especially one under house arrest no less, is just plain idiotic for even attempting such a stunt, no matter how well-meaning."

You're giving him far too much credit with your "well-meaning" comment.

Anthony Elgindy is a professional con artist. Always has been and always will be. That he has so many supporters that give him the benefit of the doubt is more a comment on their gullibility than their intelligence.

I think he probably did have permission to attend the funeral. He didn't try to keep it secret; but then of course he's never really tried to keep anything secret. That being the case, lol, he should have asked the board whether this latest venture was a Good Idea. We'd have set him straight.

I just don't get it. Was he so upset by Helvenston's death that he went bonkers? This was a plan guaranteed to fail.

As he was actually trying to board a flight home, it seems obvious he was not trying to flee.

Not necessarily. In San Diego he had to wear his ankle bracelet, and I don't doubt People were keeping an eye on him now and then. But he wouldn't have been returning as himself. Even so, it would have been a very dumb idea. Hell, if he wanted to do a flit, why didn't he just rent a boat and take off when he was in Florida? He could have been on some Caribbean island in no time.

One way or another, I'm sure that the "explanation", if we ever hear one, is gonna be a lulu.

Two outcomes would have come from the meeting in Hew York:

1) High-percentage chance of successful defense --> return home, connect via Phoenix as planned and booked.

2) Low-percentage chance of successful defense --> connect (to somewhere safe) via a low-profile aiport with minimal security. Keep the San Diego connection open for late-breaking information, change of mind, or other unforeseen optional need?

Is the international concourse security higher in NY than in Phx? Would it be easier to attempt getting through domestic concourse security in NY, then get outbound via Phx? Would a Latino ID help the aforementioned process in case 2? Is Islip easier than even bothering with JFK? Haven't been through MacArthur in Islip but I've been through Sky Harbor. Those are some "Occamic" questions I might ponder with my bookie.
