Well, you go from not having squat to being financially comfortable. It changes your "deep seeded convictions", if you know what I mean.

Perhaps that's an element of it. But mainly, most people just "grow up" to the ways of the world, and come to recognize that idealism is great when you're youthful, but doesn't serve you well in life.

My big argument on capital punishment was, "If I wouldn't be willing to throw the switch, then I shouldn't be willing to support the concept". Of course, when I grew up, I realized that not only would I be "willing" to throw the switch, I would be absolutely HONORED BY THE OPPORTUNITY in many cases. The difference? With experience, one learns that some people behave in such a way that they must forfeit their right to exist.

Al, Well, you go from not having squat to being financially comfortable. It changes your "deep seeded convictions", if you know what I mean.

I guarantee you that those moving from "not having squat" to financial comfort weren't empowered by liberal spending programs, but by the power and freedom of the individual. Maybe that's why their "deep seeded convictions" change, because they realize that the dependence seeded by the liberals grew into weeds and thorns that choked off any will to break the cycle.
