The improving job situation is a red herring. Rocket engineers working at Starbucks are not going to vote for Bush. Inflation is rearing it's ugly head due to expenses in Iraq. Same situation we had during Vietnam.

Iraq will not settle down. The Iraqis want elections. As long as we have puppets governing them they will resist. Ultimately they will win and they know it. They understand, like the North Vietnamese did, that this war is about PR.

Like we killed more Vietnamese during TET but we lost anyway.

Bush does have some things on his side, he's got an improving economy and by the fall the Iraq situation should have settled down...

hehe, playa, that ain just "SOME THINGS" on his side. That is the whole enchilada. With a measurably good economy and a reasonably settled Iraq, Bush wins. He now needs to start shoring up his base. And to do that he merely needs to say something like this:

"America is a land of honor and tradition, where men and women form family, have children and serve as the backbone of everything that is American. My opponent obviously thinks differently on this point and wants to tinker with it, as we have just seen in his state. It is wrong. His own church declares it is wrong. America doesn't need it."

That sort of thing will begin to work. It will hardly effect the leftists because they despise Bush as it is (and love the Sodomites) and also there are only three undecided people in the race - so they don't matter. What Bush needs to do is show his supporters that he really is one of them. This, with a stable Iraq and improving economy is a certain recipe for a Bush victory.
