Why don't you ask Malko or Lavie the same question? My point is twofold.
1) The article didn't get picked up on this thread and it is a proper and important subject of debate.
2) There is a primary question which hasn't been answered to my satisfaction: Why did Arafat reject Camp David?

Malko's article and Lavies comments as well as Pundik's commentary indicate to me that there is much more to Arafat's intransigence than has been presented to western eyes.
I know neither Malko nor Lavie. I have met Pundik and have read many of his comments on the Israel/Palestine problem. I find him very aware(and not naive) of the difficulties in the ME in general and Israel/Palestine in particular.

As far as recommending anything all I have done is recommend that one reads these articles and think about alternatives to the perception that Arafat is not a serious peace negotiator.
Finally if anyone is to be called naive it must be Malko and his credentials preclude that. I suppose that is why you use the word naive about me since cutting to the chase would immediately expose your argument as being not to the point.

Noel, you cannot possibly be this naive in real life. Why in real life, I bet someone has to lie to your face only two or three times before you stop trusting him.

So why do you trust the Bush Administration?

Hello Nadine,

But when it comes to the Mideast, the level of trust you recommend is infinite - which is what it would take for anybody to trust anything Arafat says, ever. You don't have to ask the Israelis. Ask the Jordanians. Ask the Egyptians. Ask the Lebanese. They'll tell you.

Very nicely said.
