LOL. The south Vietnamese were very corrupt. 2.5 million Americans didn't protect them from the Viet Cong so I guess it was all a huge mistake huh? We dumped more explosives on that poor country than during the entire WWII in Europe. It was just awful. What threat were they to us? The whole war was based on this domino theory which turned out to be false.

The US got involved in Vietnam because of the 'herd' mentality, which was driven by the remnants of the Joe McCarthy era. Actually had Repubs been in power the war would have been less likely, but alas the last thing the poor Dems wanted to be accused of was to be soft on them thar Commies. In that time there was one behind every other tree. Of course they were all bad, just like Moslems are today.
