Alighieri, then according to you, if we leave Iraq, all the Islamic terrorists in the world will decide miraculously not to attack U.S. citizens anymore? Not likely. Where have I said what you attribute to me above? Something needs to be done. I'm not saying invading countries is the best solution, but retreating to fortress America is not a good solution either. We're in agreement on both of these tenets. The ideal solution would be for those terrorists to turn into politicians and inspire their own people to overthrow their autocratic governments and install democratic, peaceful institutions. Although insufficient by itself, your remark seems to imply a natural evolution...we're in agreement once more. But we all know that the terrorists don't want representative government and freedom. Instead, they want a Taliban style government with Sharia law and no freedom of religion, much less economic and other freedoms. Where are the sources of this fundamentalism? Iraq? No. Saudi Arabia who actually has spent the last few decades funding and appeasing Wahabism while imposing a monarchy on its people? Bingo. Pakistan who actually installed the Taliban in Afghanistan and also imposes a military dictatorship on its people? Bingo again. Now tell me, who are our closest allies in the region beside Israel? If you answered Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, you would be right. What else irritates the general middle eastern population and provides fertile recruiting ground to these fundamentalists, beside our invasion of one of their countries and support for shas, and kings, and dictators on the one hand and calls for democracy on the other? If you answered "our one sided, unconditional support for Israeli expansion", you would be right again. After decades of such policies, there are no silver bullets, and unless you begin to see the issues as they are, you cannot follow policies that consider the problem and start down the road to solutions?
