If a draft is initiated I personally will do everything I can to help young people avoid it. Help them hide, help them get across the border, whatever it takes.

As there are thousands of Americans who will do the same, as a practical matter a draft is not even remotely possible. What if they initiated the draft and nobody showed up?

National Service legislation has already been proposed--by the Congressional Black Caucus, no less--before the Iraq war started. HR 163, I think.
