4) Kerry's "30+ years ago" record IS relevant simply because HE made it so.............

Not necessarily so! I don't believe he made his Vietnam experience the centre piece of his campaign. It just appears that way and the Repubhacks spinmeisters capitalized on it. Don't forget that Kerry campaigned on other issues too and those issues are helping him to narrow the polls gap daily!
From the progress he is making, it appears he will win.

Even if Kerry had not campaigned on his Vietnam experience, the Smearvets would attack him anyway. Don't tell me that had Kerry not mention Vietnam, they would be so good as not to attack him. LOL As a matter of fact, they have been lurking and waiting to pounce on him! And they should be thankful for being given the chance. Hopefully, after Nov 2nd, regardless of whoever is the winner, their hate and anger would be abated if not exorcised completely.

IMHO, Kerry used his Vietnamese experience to highlight the fact that Bush did not only avoid seeing action in Vietnam but went AWOL for about a year while ostensibly serving in the Air National Guard.

If I may say so, I believe lots of folks seem to forget that people evolve (change for the better) over the years as they learn hard lessons from the university of life. In a perverse sort of way, they like to believe that Kerry has not evolved at all. LOL! Which can, of course, lead one to the inescapable conclusion they have a agenda or being mean-spirited. Otherwise, they are just plain ignorant.

Bush made Iraq the centerpiece of his campaign. And he lied and lost the war due to FUBAR corruption and piss poor planning.

JK rarely mentions Vietnam. But his experience as a combat hero is relevant at a time of war. Not a single rightwing leader has ever been in combat.
