Billionaries could still subsidize think tanks, buy media outlets, support politically slanted authors.

Prehaps the visible contributions are better than unseen hands.

In California, the personal projects of the rich have not done well. For Governor, Mr. Cheecci and Mr. Huffington got nowwhere. Several propositions with big dollars sponsors (school vouchers) crashed and burned.

I think we are better off dealing with the open advocacy of George Soros, Pete Coors etc. than with the hidden hands of the Pew Foundation or Richard Mellon Scaife. Just to pick one each from 'left' and 'right'

Malcolm,
Your point is well taken but it assumes that billionaires are concerned with increasing their wealth above anything else. The same for "corrupt politicians". Whilst I am sure it applies to some, do you really thing it applies to most?

And if the American democratic system is fatally flawed, one wonders where one can go to find a workable system. I mean if the Fed is going to print money endlessly, as is expected by many on this thread, resulting in a crash. Where would one be better off or are we all doomed?

Ray

A moron, unexposed to well financed propaganda, is still a moron, and would still vote accordingly. Capitalism is not to blame for the inherent weakness of democracy.
