I just saw an ad smearing the Swift Vets as Republican backed
liars. It claimed John Kerry was a genuine "war hero". It
completely ignored Kerry's anti-war activities as if they
were never addressed by the Sfift Vets.

It was put out by the Kerry Campaign.

It would be interesting to know how many people were laid off in the auto industry in Ohio, and how many of those took advantage of Government assistance to be retrained in another type of work....

But the numbers of these people who cannot maintain the upper middle class dream are climbing and will continue to do so. I live by areas where generations of families did quite well in the auto unions and these jobs are departing and they are not coming back. They have pinned their hopes on Kerry and they will continue to vote for anyone who continues to give them hope that they can bring back these jobs.

No doubt just as farriers and buggy whip manufacturers pinned their hopes on politicians who promised to restore their jobs after Henry Ford perfected the assembly line and mass production of automobiles.

Perhaps some of these overfed, overindulged, undereducated Americans should have seen the writing on the wall and gotten wise to the fact that their $30/hour jobs with kick-ass benefits would not be around forever and gone out and gotten educated and retrained.
