CBG,

That is an excellent post. I agree that there are fanatics, but maybe from another side of the spectrum. I see "demlibs" foaming at the mouth with thoughts of Bush as Hitler and conservative white intelligent family men such as myself as evil stem cell killing demagogues.

I DON'T think, however that the polarization is as wide among the masses as the picture both you and I paint from across the vertical axis of left and right.

There ARE raving lib lunatics <no names mentioned specifically> as there are raving bible thumping fascists.

Most of US ( left swinging moderates - right swinging liberals - just not OUT THERE) really do just want peace and tranquility and ability($) for everyone on the planet.

No one wants death by war.

George Bush makes mistakes.
George Bush has issues.

But he is NOT Hitler, not a fascist, and is trying to be a GOOD man doing the RIGHT thing.

A "faith-based" group of yahoos who wave the American flag proudly but don't even care that 100,000 innocent civilians have died in Iraq and who believe that only heterosexuals deserve basic human rights have some pretty strange values, and "lib dems" everywhere should continue to point that out.

That group also, as another example, believes that Abu Graib, despite the deaths under torture, was akin to a frat house initiation. That was a big eye-opener for me, on SI.

Oh yes, and many of them support Bush specifically because he believes in mandatory gestation of zygotes to term.
