Things are a no-brainer for me (like rights gay/marriage, pro-choice, environment, etc) are a ticking time-bomb for them. Similarily, things that get me going (Iraq war and unnecessary deaths) are no big deal.
...

I'd have to say, its pretty hard. There dont seem to be a whole lot of common ground to agree upon at this point.

There's more common ground than you realize. You like the environment, we like the environment...we just want to go about things differently. You guys want to jack up the taxes on oil, sign kyoto and build windmills (just not near the Hamptons!), we want to let the free market handle it and do something more realistic like go nuclear.

You want gay marriage, most of us are fine with civil unions. They can do what they want in their bedroom, just don't screw with something as fundamental as marriage.

You guys hate a war where we have national security interests, but are ok with a war where we don't have national security interests (Bosnia, Kosovo etc). Ok, so we may be pretty far apart on this point.

You guys are pro choice to a fault (I don't see how anybody can support partial-birth abortion...absolutely sick), many of us want limits on it, but not outright banning. You can't get rid of it entirely IMO as it would just move back into the back alleys. What's wrong with parental notice though? Putting a limit on an abortion within the first trimester?

How do these things compromise the woman's right to choose? Choice is fine, but you guys take it to a point where it's casual disregard for human life.

See, we're not that far off in the big picture.

Brian

Beach Bum, While we may be able to trace the source of our diference, I am not sure how we can bridge that.

As a conservative who has lived in "blue states" all his life (though not necessarily as a conservative throughout it all), I can tell you that I'd just rather stick to my beliefs and live my life, even if most people around me don't think the same way I do. I can't change the world, but I can perhaps influence the world around me, just by living the best example that I can.

As for liberals who do live in "blue states" and are miffed that the federal government is being controlled by the "red states," at least they can still implement their form of liberalism at the state level. Or even at the local level (which to me is probably the only level at which liberalism truly works). Besides, Democrats still have 45 seats in the Senate, which is plenty for filibustering. I suggest, however, that they not abuse the filibuster, lest they want to see their influence shrink even further.

I agree. Its the classic case of the lunatics running the asylum. Do you know how many bush buttheads have come up to me and said that they didn't like Bush but they voted for him because they were afraid that Kerry would raise taxes? Well, I've got news for them.........ole Bush will do a lot more than raise their taxes. All ready the Iranians are burning Bush in effigy and gearing up for war.

And in case you missed the Viagra commercial exchange between Joe the pious and Ten the saint, they provide an excellent insight into how these heehaws think.

I don't think I have ever been more disgusted. And I don't think I am alone in that feeling.

I understand they're selling like hotcakes! ;~)
