"Look up Avian flu to see how it has already spread to humans. "

I have. Whether or not it gets much distribution is dependent on a lot of factors. In general, the more lethal something is, the less likely it is to be distributed. The Spanish Flu got spread because with WWI ending, there was a lot of pent up desire to travel. Because of the cost, people weren't very likely to cancel travel plans because they were sick. So they traveled, sick.
