I have traveled across the subcontinent. I know some of the languages and understand the culture. I can figure out the culture of the ME and the similarities it has with the subcontinent, especially the northern part. When I say that the insurgents in Iraq won't give up, I know what I am talking about. And trust me, they won't. No matter how many people in Iraq get killed.

I have to apologize to you for some of the less than appropriate remarks earlier. Honestly - you have more knowledge than many other right wingers and of course common people in Red states. The entire region is rife with subtleties that administration already knows but deliberately distorts by painting the entire picture in black and white. Where the conflicts and culture date back to 1000's of years the sublties manifest themselves in the spectrum of all colors (inlucding the invisible ones). The history and time horizon / attention span is not as short as of people over here. They have longer memories So in conclusion - you being much more knowledgable than many others in this country cannot see the subtleties - how are common folks expected to see it. Imagine - how easily they can be manipulated and have already been deceived. Trust me the blood feud runs so deep among various divisions in that part of the world - but they will unite in a split second against colonial invaders. We had full justification to go into Afghanistan with full might and still do to chase every single Taliban and Al Qaeda. I for one still have difficulty digesting the Iraq war. It was not just and it was not fair and in my heart I do believe that there is a special place in Hell for the deceivers.
