Alighieri and John, Bush may be stingy, but Americans are not. Read the news, Americans and American countries are giving very large amounts.

So John, your posts that Americans are stingy is ludicrous and untrue.

"and an initial pledge of $5M"

I think that was $15 million. To put it in perspective, the Republicans are planning on spending around $30 million on the inaugural celebrations...

Americans have been among the most generous people on earth..but this monster in the WH is a cold hearted bastard...after 3 days of silence, and an initial pledge of $5M, he had to be shamed into action, and even then, the pledge went up in fits and starts, now standing at a pultry sum of $35M...

It's true, Clinton would have been out there 'feeling their pain' a second after it happened. Anything to get in front of the cameras. I wonder though, where is your criticism of Kofi? He was on vacation and didn't make any comments until a few days after Bush did. He's being very generous and will 'manage' all of those nice funds for us. I wonder if he made any contributions himself.

Bush is more about action than the appearance of action.

Frankly, the US government gives plenty. More than any of our critics by any measure. The government should be providing things that individuals can't, airplanes, troops, ships etc. Things like large sums of cash should come from individual americans giving to whatever level they feel appropriate.

Of course, a bunch of socialists won't give any credit to individual contributions, they do everything through the government. We don't (thank God).
