Well, cancel my entry then. What's the use of allowing people to re-enter based on incorrect analyst estimates, if the new, corrected analyst estimates DO NOT INCLUDE these charges??? The implication was that people might have been misled by the incorrect analyst EPS estimates. Surely they are being misled by the correct analyst estimates (of pro forma earnings) now?

Clearly, you should make the estimate one of pro forma earnings. There is no reason not to.

I agree with your interpretation of the rules, but think that, in the future the words

Significant unanticipated one-time charges will be excluded from the respective company numbers used to calculate the contest results. See the guidance page for more information. In short, if a positive or negative charge of $0.01 EPS or more is previously unguided AND specifically mentioned in the company's earnings release, then it will be excluded from the EPS category results.

...should be replaced by

One time charges (gains), anticipated or unanticipated, specifically mentioned in the company's earnings release, shall be excluded from the company numbers used to calculate the contest results, but only if, for each charge (gain),
1. It is shown as a line item in the earnings release
2. The release contains a calculation of earnings per share that exludes the item.

This makes our rules comparable to what the analysts do (I think!!) and we don't need any "special" contest EPS, other than 0.001 accuracy.

04Q4 AMD & Intel EPS Contest - Update

I have talked it over with PT and we have decided to keep the contest rules unchanged. All known charges will be included in the contest, and thanks to brushwud, the charges in this link are clearly known:

Message 20912366

However, since this wasn't entirely obvious to most entrants, we are going to allow a special "one-time" revision to the AMD EPS category. Entrants can change their number for this one category, in whichever direction they wish, without affecting their bonus or without losing their ability to further revise their entry later per the normal rules.

This one-time change must be submitted by this Friday at the close of the stock market using the normal entry form link at the contest website (link below). Put "NA" or "NC" in all other unchanged categories. Remember, if you change any other categories it will count as a normal revision per normal rules (bonus reset, etc.).

Sorry for any confusion, but hopefully this clears up this matter.
