Shack, my understanding of the 3-black crow pattern (as well as my application) has been, if you see them, it's there, and the pattern progression is assumed until the top of the first candle is violated.

I've been working with these patterns for a couple of years and have found them to be highly reliable. Obviously, they're more reliable when the pattern points in the direction of the prevailing trend.

On daily charts I'd have to estimate their reliability at close to 90% based upon my own experience. I tend to avoid indices that have static openings for this pattern, however.
