Big difference between nra and hizbollah. Consitution guarantees right to bear arms. I didnt write the 2nd amendment and it was written by only cons or only libs either. It was a reflection of the times. Yesterday everyone was ranting and raving about judicial activism re: gay marriage as infringing rights. How would these same folks reach today if jttab launched an assault on the 2nd amendment? Oh then they would talk about it being outdated blah blah blah.
Also, i do not doubt that there is a problem with armed nativist militias in the US. Bush and Cheney are not supporters of these militias. Again you know all this.

The problem with the 2'nd Amendment crowd is specifically that they don't think weapons should be restricted to militia.

Some of them do, some of them don't. Those that do recognize that the militia consists of more than just the national guard.

Either way there is a difference between "a right to keep and bear arms", and "a right to form organized military units that are not answerable to any level of American government".
