Do you seriously think that someone as mediocre as GWB got to where he is without his family influence? It's more than a little dishonest to say to a young person in the poor part of town, dodging bullets fired in government-produced Drug Wars while someone else's kid goes to prep school, "We'll meet on the golf course at 3pm where you'll tee off with my Dad's friends. Poor people are allowed there now."

People can get GI Bill to educate themselves but should not have to join the military to fight rich men's wars, initiated by draft-doging chicken hawks, to do it (IMO). Should poor people have to risk life and limb to get the higher education that will be simply given to affluent kids? Is your society just if it works that way? Doesn't this just perpetuate the "have" and "have not" divisions? We haven't even broached the discussion of those who are injured, losing the bet.

Nobody picks their birth situations and some are luckily born into a stable and/or wealthy family. Most aren't. The biggest predictor for upward mobility after PRIOR FAMILIAL wealth is the education of your MOTHER. If we have uneducated mothers having kids, their children are doomed.

Cosby is to be commended for telling it the way it is. You can't depend on anyone else to make it and that goes for everybody.
