I wonder how tight the regs are on these so called "scum." Smoking pot? What kind of criminal record? I suspect they are having to pass on teenagers who might do well if given the chance, and that this is the reason we see recruiters bending the rules.

Funny Tom, if we impose your standards today we would have to expel about half the senior enlisted corp. :)

Kids do change with the right environment, right leadership and right training. The military has "proven" that over decades and decades.

I personally know dozens of master Chiefs in the Navy who came in the service because some judge said "jail or the service". You would never know it though now twenty years later.
