Do you think the American public would react well if we informed them tomorrow that due to excessive Social Security promises, and excessive MediCare promises, we will be immediately eliminating 40% of all federal government programs? By the way, your favorite programs are definitely on the list!

Let us start to deal with Social Security before we open the next can of worms.

Frankly, Medicare problems worry me far more the SS. I have found out first hand how difficult it is for anyone to obtain private insurance as they age with even the slightest preexisting condition. I know this would be likely unpopular but if it took raising the monthly premium to even $200 for Medicare to fix it, that would be the way to go. Most people would find that to obtain PRIVATE insurance somewhere comparable to Medicare would cost $800-1,000 a MONTH today. jdn
