I dont have an "elaborate study" of a Chinese diet, but I do have an anecdotal story.

My son got back from China this week and told me the story of watching an adult hold a baby over the sidewalk as he "shit". They don't have pampers in China, you know. It was right in front of a restaurant. He lost his appetite. He also lost 10 pounds over 2 weeks.

Grainne, a large factor in the incidence of heart disease, and cancer as well, is genetics. Some people are genetically more disposed to develop both types of disease. If one has a gene that allows plaque buildup in one's arteries, it is irrelevant whether the person eats meat or not.

some sort of savage? nah, I just countered the assertion that man doesn't have a killer instinct.

I still don't see anything that suggests that there is a causal relationship between eating "meat" and the diseases that you mentioned. Of course, a link to amazon ain't gonna get me to where I need to go on this.
