Not true. I abhor torture.

Let's look at your scenario. I have an easier one but it is the same problem.

My daughter is in a locked room, sleeping. The building is on fire. A man blocks my path to the door where my daughter is sleeping.

He is not attacking me. He is only a threat to my daughter because he wont move his butt. I give him a choice, allow me to pass and save my daughter or I violently remove you from my path so that I can save my daughter.

There is no torture, he gives me what I want or he suffers and I am justified in the defense of my daughter. It is pretty well understood that persons who engage in torture to gain information do not always know what they are looking for which is a far different idea.

The same with the man who has my daughter buried alive. In either event I may not have what it takes to remove the barrier but I have the right to engage the man who blocks me. He is an active mortal threat to my daughter, not a subdued (surrendered) prisoner.

In either case, I have no intention to cause pain and suffering to someone who has surrendered his fight against me and is posing no threat.

Why would someone who is not willing to give you honest information be more willing to do so because you beat him up?

There's something here I don't get. This becomes PARTICULARLY true if you are dealing with someone who believes he will receive more in the afterlife for dying fighting for his religion. You tortured him, demanded info, he gave you bad info, led you into a trap maybe, you kill him for it, he goes to Paradise and collects more for what he did.
