i'll stay with soccer, thank you very much.... fast, accurate, skilled, at at times incredibly close; to boot, violence (amongst those who play well, is shunned).
unlike ice hockey in which violence is actually promoted...

Being raised in Detroit I really enjoyed watching and sometimes playing ice hockey and I can never understand how so many fans can love soccer but not love hockey. But then again both sports generally put the American audience to sleep.

>>unlike ice hockey in which violence is actually promoted... hell, might as well skipp the ice skating part, get the gloves on and have at it.... (it is called boxing actually ) -gg<<

I can't remember the comedian I saw years ago who used the line "I went to a boxing match last night, and in the 5th round a hockey game broke out."

i mean the announcer goes NUTS when finally there is a flurry of activity and then... it goes back to dead still...

that sounds a lot like baseball. the uneven and unpredictable delivery of "gifts" like these interesting moments is actually a good strategy for developing an addiction. with lab rats, when they get rewarded with a treat for tapping on a bar, they become much more addicted to tapping if the reward is delivered at infrequent, unpredictable intervals than if it is regular and predictable. so it is with passtimes like baseball and cricket. if you haven't become addicted, it appears irrational and stupid. but, once you cross the "event horizon", you will sit there like a mesmerized lab rat tapping the bar all day and hoping for a treat.
